In an era when the digital landscape is increasingly monitored, a startling revelation has come to light. Investigative journalist Lee Fang has reported that Flashpoint, an FBI surveillance contractor, infiltrated the chatrooms of two airline industry groups opposed to vaccine mandates.
This contractor, notorious for its past operations infiltrating Islamic terror groups, now sets its sights on “anti-vaccine” groups and other domestic political organizations.
A New Frontier: Telegram Chatrooms
Flashpoint analyst Vlad Cuiujuclu laid bare the company’s methods for identifying and infiltrating encrypted Telegram chat groups in a recent webinar presentation. Notably, these chatrooms were populated by transportation workers resisting the COVID-19 vaccine mandates.
According to Cuiujuclu, “we’re searching for a closed channel of U.S. Freedom Flyers. It’s basically a group that opposed vaccination and masks.” Furthermore, the company employed artificial intelligence and internet scraping tools in its surveillance activities. This raises questions about the extent of privacy and the protections we as citizens can expect in this digital age.
What is more disconcerting is that Flashpoint is not a lone wolf. It is part of the expanding “threat intelligence industry.” This industry thrives on the creation of fake online identities to infiltrate various social media platforms, from Discord chats and WhatsApp groups to Reddit forums and dark web message boards.
The end goal?
To gather intelligence for their clients, which include corporations and the FBI, in a bid to monitor potential threats.
A Voice from the Inside: US Freedom Flyers
In the face of these allegations, Joshua Yoder, president of US Freedom Flyers, confirmed that Flashpoint infiltrated private chat groups associated with his organization. “Infiltration is a tactic used by the deep state to prevent the truth from being told by attempting to destroy the advancement of the message,” Yoder stated.
The aviation industry workers have been some of the most vocal and organized groups against COVID-19 vaccine mandates.
They wrote open letters, organized research into the risks of vaccines for pilots, spoke publicly about the “culture of fear and intimidation” around the mandates, and filed multiple lawsuits in Canada, the Netherlands, and the U.S. In May 2022, US Freedom Flyers even brought a lawsuit against Atlas Air, one of the largest air cargo carriers in the industry.
According to Fang, the surveillance of American citizens resisting the vaccine mandates is not a new phenomenon. “There is a long sordid history of informants and surveillance contractors working to undermine democratic engagement in this country,” he stated.
Flashpoint openly advertises its surveillance success on its website. Notably, they provide instances of undermining environmental activism, G20 protests, and protests against the aviation industry. Upon Fang’s investigation publication, however, these webpages were hastily removed, only to be found on the Wayback Machine internet archive.
Flashpoint was founded by Evan Kohlmann, a former NBC News contributor renowned for his investigations into Islamic terror groups. The company has recently acquired Echosec Systems, another intelligence contractor, and formalized a partnership with Google Cloud.

These moves align with a steady stream of contracts from the FBI, Department of Defense, Treasury Department, and Department of Homeland Security.

Bhattacharya argued, “This kind of domestic spying violates the implicit protection Americans have in these kinds of settings. This isn’t terrorism, this doesn’t have anything to do with national security. This is a private set of employees, workers who are trying to maintain their jobs in the face of unscientific demands for COVID vaccinations.” This revelation undoubtedly sets a worrying precedent.
